Many communities in SWPA have faced significant challenges over the last several decades due to deindustrialization, population decline, and regional fragmentation. Despite this, the grit and resilience of everyday people — matched with the growth and innovation of industries both old and new — have positioned SWPA to be a more flourishing, healthy, and sustainable region.
